Some government accommodations carry decades of history. Most stories surrounding them are nothing more than rumors. But sometimes, an ordinary posting leads to something that no one can explain.
This is one such chilling incident from 2006, based on the experience of Deepti Ranjan Pradhan, an officer who later retired as a Tehsildar. Although the events took place in 2006, the story actually began sixteen years earlier.
A Government Job That Took Sixteen Years
In 1990, Deepti Ranjan Pradhan cleared the OSA Administrative Service examination. However, due to administrative delays, the appointment process stretched for an unbelievable sixteen years.
Finally, in 2006, he received his posting as a Sub-District Magistrate in Angul, Odisha. Originally from Bhubaneswar, Deepti had to leave his family behind temporarily and move to Angul for training.
His wife worked as a school teacher, and together they had a six-year-old son. Since the training was only for a limited period, Deepti decided to stay alone until everything settled down.
Life Inside the Circuit House
The government arranged his stay at the town’s Circuit House.
Only three people stayed there: Deepti Ranjan Pradhan, A government helper assigned to assist him and An Additional District Magistrate (ADM) who was also undergoing training
Every morning at 10 a.m., the helper dropped Deepti at the Collectorate. In the evening, around 6 p.m., he brought him back to the Circuit House.
For the first ten days, everything seemed perfectly normal.
The routine was simple. Office during the day, dinner in the evening, and rest at night.
Nothing appeared unusual.https://www.indiatvnews.com/news/india/myth-or-mystery-haunted-circuit-houses-in-india-36576.html
The Strange Power Failures
After about ten days, Deepti noticed that electricity at the Circuit House had started going off repeatedly.
Initially, he assumed it was just a technical issue.
When the problem continued for several days, he contacted the local Junior Engineer and asked whether the transformer had developed a fault.
The engineer assured him there was no major problem and promised to send a technician the following morning.
That answer seemed reasonable.
But the next morning, something even stranger happened.
The Mysterious Key
As Deepti prepared to leave for the Collectorate, his helper suddenly noticed that the back of his shirt had been torn.
He immediately returned to his room to change.
When he reached the entrance, he noticed an old key lying outside the locked room.
Since he assumed it belonged to one of the rooms inside the Circuit House, he casually picked it up and slipped it into his pocket.
At that moment, it seemed completely insignificant.
He had no idea that this forgotten key would later unlock one of the darkest secrets hidden inside the property.
The Woman in the Purple Saree
While leaving the Circuit House that morning, Deepti looked toward an old bungalow situated near the main gate.
A narrow pathway ran beside it.
There, sitting quietly on a chair, was a woman wearing a purple saree.
She wasn’t doing anything unusual.
She simply sat there silently.
For a few seconds, Deepti kept looking at her.
Then the vehicle moved ahead, and he reached the Collectorate without saying a word.
Later that afternoon, when he returned for lunch, curiosity got the better of him.
He casually asked the helper,
“Does anyone live in the bungalow near the gate?”
The helper looked completely confused.
“No, sir.”
“Only you, me, and the ADM stay here.”
“There is nobody else.”
The answer left Deepti puzzled.
If no one lived there…
Then who was the woman he had seen?
The helper’s reaction was so genuine that Deepti decided not to ask any more questions.
Instead, he changed the topic. https://unbiasedpollkhol.com/
A Locked Room That Opened Only for Him
The following day, Deepti informed the helper that his wife and young son would soon be visiting him.
He handed over the room keys and requested him to clean everything before evening.
Around 4 p.m., the helper called him.
“Sir, the key you gave me isn’t opening your room.”
Busy in an official meeting, Deepti assumed the helper was making excuses to avoid cleaning.
When training ended that evening, he returned to the Circuit House.
Taking the same key from the helper, he inserted it into the lock.
The door opened instantly.
The helper stood there, visibly shaken.
“Sir… I tried many times. It simply wouldn’t open.”
Deepti felt irritated but ignored the incident.
Yet somewhere in his mind, the strange events were beginning to connect.
Another Night… Another Mystery
Since the ADM had temporarily gone home, the helper suggested that Deepti spend the night in the vacant ADM quarters.
After dinner, Deepti shifted there.
Around 10 p.m., the electricity failed once again.
This time, the darkness felt unusually heavy.
As he lay on the bed, complete silence surrounded the Circuit House.
Then…
A strange sound broke the silence.
It sounded as though someone was using a heavy cutter to slice through wood.
The noise seemed to come from outside.
Curious, Deepti walked to the window.
To his surprise, the entire Circuit House was in darkness.
Except for one building.
The old bungalow near the entrance was brightly lit.
As he continued staring at it, the lights suddenly went out.
At exactly the same moment…
The cutting sound stopped.
For several moments, Deepti stood frozen.
Unable to explain what he had just witnessed.
